We live in a society that is often critical and even hostile to our faith. Today’s media delights in denigrating Christian beliefs. Many people think nothing of publicly blaspheming God’s name. While every imaginable depraved viewpoint is freely discussed in the public forum, a Christian position will invariably invite ridicule. In such a world it is easy to be intimidated by those who view our faith with disdain.
Paul had to encourage Timothy not to be disheartened by the difficulties associated with the Christian faith. Paul spent a great deal of time in prison or enduring suffering, because of his faith. Yet rather than being discouraged by his difficulties, Paul viewed his life as a testimony to God’s power. Even in a dismal prison, Paul saw God’s power being displayed. As a result, Paul became one of the greatest witnesses for Christ in history.
Christ died for you. Heaven has prepared a glorious home for you. Many other believers have met their deaths bravely because of their loyalty to Christ. Are you ashamed of that faith? Do you value your relationship with Christ as precious? Don’t ever let the world around you diminish the amazing fact that you have a personal relationship with almighty God.
