Divine Provocation

Our God is perfect. He does not sin. He has no regrets. He has suffered no missteps. Nevertheless, the Bible declares that He can be moved to anger and jealousy. At first glance, this can appear confusing.

To understand this we must realize that God is infinitely loving. His capacity to love you exceeds anything you have ever experienced or Hollywood has ever depicted. He knows what you were created to experience and to enjoy. His fathomless love is unwilling for you to accept anything less than His best for your life. That is why He is so moved when you willingly embrace sin, sadness, and death rather than abundant life.

How could a God who loves you remain indifferent to your foolish choices? How could God blithely go about His business while one of His children rushed headlong to his destruction? He cannot. So He is moved, deeply, by your sin. It stirs up a righteous anger within Him when you reject Him and embrace death. His love for you grows righteously jealous, every time you shun His care for you to throw yourself at worthless idols and ungodly behavior.

You must understand. When you sin, it moves God to anger and jealousy. How do you think He feels about your current behavior?
